When do you close for the winter?

We are open year-round! You can view our store hours here.

Will you install the plants I buy?

Unfortunately, we do not do any plantings or landscaping services.

We do have a Planting Instructions, that could help you learn how to install your own plants.

Also, we do have a list of local landscapers in the area who do lots of business with us. We do not have any affiliations with them, just listing references. Please get in contact with us if you would like a reference.

When will your Salisbury location open again?

We have no plans to re-open our Salisbury location.

Do you have a warranty on your plants?

Yes! We have a 1-year warranty for our trees and shrubs, given they are cared for properly. Please click here for detailed information about our warranty.

Do you sell cut flowers?

We do not sell cut flowers at this time.

Do you make custom arrangements?

Yes! We sure do! We make live and artificial custom arrangements. Come on by and chat with one of our designers and they will create just what you are looking for!

Do you offer a senior or military discount?

Yes! We offer both! Our senior day is Tuesday, when seniors (age 65 or older) receive a 10% discount. Military/Veterans receive 10% off any day, with a valid ID.

Do you offer soil tests?

Yes! We do! We require a small sample of your soil to be sent out to a lab. There are multiple soil tests available, so please feel free to discuss all of your options with one of our Garden Center employees.

Do you sell native plants?

Yes! We try to have a wide variety and great selection of native plants from spring to fall.

Do you use chemicals and or pesticides when growing or maintaining your plant material?

At Wolf Hill Garden Center, we source our plant material from a select number of professional growers who are proud to use integrated pest management practices including mechanical control, predatory insects, proper spacing techniques, precise watering, and never use neonicotinoids when chemical controls are required. When chemical intervention is necessary, they always start with the most targeted lightweight approach possible and go from there.

Here at Wolf Hill, if we have a problem with mildew or pests, we use products that are safe for pollinators such as Organocide BeeSafe 3-in-1 Garden Spray, Copper, Serenade, or Neem Oil. We try to spray early in the day before the day gets active for pollinators. If a plant or crop does not respond well to this intervention, we will cut the plants back to the pot and let them get a fresh start. Cutting back seems drastic, but it is much less stressful on the plant and it will have the rest of the season to flush back out.

We fertilize our annuals once per week and our perennials once per month with Jack's brand all purpose 20-20-20 water soluble fertilizer. When we bring in organic herbs and veggies (subject to availability), we will not fertilize with this product.

We've had many customers in the Summer comment on aphids they see on our Asclepias incarnata; if the aphids haven't become an infestation, we'll allow them to become lunch for the lady bugs. At home, I suggest inspecting and removing any caterpillar eggs to safety before using any soapy sprays or blasts of water. For stink bugs and cucumber beetles we try to use yellow sticky traps when possible in combination with neem oil.

To deter problems from the get go, we try to give our nursery stock plenty of space to allow for sunlight and airflow. We target our hose watering by going "pot to pot" instead of overcast spraying. We keep the pots clear of fallen debris to deter fungal issues and not give pests a place to hide.

At Wolf Hill, it is our goal to provide top quality beneficial nursery material for our customers to beautify their landscape while doing their part to work with our ecosystem and help out all of our pollinating friends be they birds, flies, bees, hummingbirds, moths, butterflies, ants, etc.!  Please check out our extended Native selection this Summer.

When can we see the wolves?

Sorry, you're looking for Wolf Hollow. We do not have any wolves here.

Will you drag drop the stone in my driveway?

Yes! As long as it is safe to do so. What we do is backup to the back of your driveway (furthest from the road) and start dumping the stone as we pull the truck forward towards the road. As long as there are no overhead wires, tree limbs, or obstacles, and we are on flat, solid ground, this shouldn't be a problem for our driver. We DO NOT smooth it out by hand afterwards.

I couldn't find the plant I was looking for, can you order it for me?

Yes, if we can source it for you! We will do our best to try and find the plant you are looking for, but sometimes specific plants are hard to find.

We do have a planting reference guide, that could help you find what you are looking for.

Why isn't my hydrangea blooming?

This is a complicated answer! It could depend on the variety of hydrangea you have. This is a great article that explains in detail about different reasons why your hydrangeas may not be blooming. Of course, you can always give us a shout if you want to talk it through with one of our knowledgeable employees!

Can I leave my pots outside during the winter?

You can, but we don't recommend it, especially if they are ceramic or porus in any way. The reason being, if water gets in the pot and it freezes, it will expand, and likely crack your pot. If you do not have anywhere to move your pots indoors, or under cover, at least set them upside down so that water is not going to get stuck in them and freeze.

Do you sell water plants for my pond?

No, we do not sell water plants.

Do you have clam shells this year?

We are trying to get in clam shells for this season. If they're available, they will be listed on our website to order.

I don't know what kind of plant to get, can you help me?

We sure can! Our nursery staff is very knowledgeable and eager to help you pick out something that will be just right for you! There are lots of factors to think about - how much sun does the area get, is it sandy soil, is it near the ocean, is it in a swampy area - so leave it to our nursery staff to help you pick out something that will work in your area.

Do you sell salt marsh hay?

Yes, we do!

What is our hardiness zone?

Ipswich and Gloucester are in hardiness zone 6b.

When is our average last frost?

Typically between May 11 - May 20. Although, it can vary depending on the town you live in. Here is a good reference map for Massachusetts.

How often should I water my plants?

It depends on your plant. If it is a houseplant, usually once a week. If it is a container planting or a hanging basket, usually once a day. If it is a newly planted perennial, tree or shrub, a daily deep watering for the first two weeks is necessary, then every other day for two weeks. We strongly recommend hand watering for the first two weeks, and not relying on irrigation (especially overhead irrigation). After that, soak your plants roots twice a week using low water pressure or a rain wand, gradually backing off to once a week, until late fall. Please view our Watering Instructions for more detailed instructions. Of course, rainfall could be a factor. If you ever have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to one of our employees. We're happy to help!

Do you take fill - we are trying to get rid of?

No, we do not accept any fill or yard waste.

Can you dump firewood ½ at my neighbor’s house and ½ at mine?

No, we cannot dump in multiple dump spots.

I have a dog, can I bring my dog with me as I shop?

Of course! We love dogs!
